Revolution 2.0
It is never that easy to describe what 2.0 is really about, probably because, with this 2.0 flavor, the web has become a place of “nature like” complexity. The way it will change the world can, however, be pretty well described in a single sentence: leverage the wisdom of crowds thanks to open good enough systems.
Much has already been said about the wisdom of crowds, Tim O’Reilly’s platform of government probably being the most ambitious project so far.
A great text from Robert Capps at Wired demonstrates the success of good enough systems… meaning good enough for sharing efficiently inside the network.
Open source is probably the perfect glue to link both concepts. Open source systems are born from the wisdom of crowds (and actually one of the best evidence of it) and are usually build according to the “good enough” principle. Besides, they are easy to distribute, and a perfect education support. No surprise open sources concepts are spreading, even in areas that seemed reserved to big industry like cameras or biology.
